BARRY FERGUSON has claimed he was impressed last week watching Ange Postecoglou deal with the media and understands why there’s a buzz about the Celtic fans at present.

However, the former midfielder is trying to use that to motivate the current team emanating from Ibrox.

Ferguson talks about Ange’s arrival bringing Celtic’s rivals to attention and giving them an impetus to show they can win the league again – even up against a completely different Celtic.

Writing in his RecordSport column, Ferguson wrote:

“On first impressions, I must admit I like the look of Ange Postecoglou.

“We may not know a great deal about him on this side of the world but he came across very well at his unveiling as Celtic’s new boss last week.

“He strikes me as a straight-talking guy with a clear, single-minded approach to what he expects from his players, with an emphasis on an attacking brand of football.

“It’s no surprise that the Parkhead fans have already taken to him.

“Put it this way, Postecoglou looks like the kind of big Greek-Australian you don’t want to mess with, so I completely understand why his appointment has created excitement across the city.

“But, as good as he might prove to be for Celtic, I have a very strong feeling his arrival in Scotland may be even better for Rangers.

“If ever there was a moment for Steven Gerrard to send out a message to his own players and get them right back up on their toes for the battle ahead, it’s now.

“Look, winning a title is one of the hardest things to achieve in football. But even harder is to retain it.

“If Rangers thought they had cracked the code last season just because they steamrollered their old rivals by 25 points, then the sight of Postecoglou getting stuck into his new job and laying the bricks and mortar down at Lennoxtown should give them all the warning they need that Celtic are building for a big backlash.

“Gerrard’s team talk ahead of the new season has already been written for him: ‘Let’s go out and prove that we’re not one-season wonders.’

“There can be no room for complacency because Celtic are going to hit back hard.”

We’ve been observing the media over the past week on how they have dealt with Ange’s appointment and the press conference. Most are saying Ange has a presence and comes across as a guy not to be messed with.

CeltsAreHere.com was in the room when the new manager spoke to the fan media and we can confirm Ange Postecoglou has a great presence and speaks very well.

Hopefully, that’s something that comes across to the players and in Ange, they have a manager they want to fight for – adopting his ideas.

The narrative Barry is spinning is pretty false. Celtic have it all to do and all to prove, given the gap, it would be a small miracle if Celtic could win the title back at the first time of asking.

Celtic are undergoing a major rebuild and not just in the starting XI – the whole club is being transformed.
