The countdown is on to see who Celtic will face in the group stages of the Champions League with the Hoops having a ticket straight into the tournament.

Celtic will be placed in pot 4 meaning that no matter who the Hoops are drawn against, they will be given a tough draw.

There is some real glamour ties in there and some that could possibly favour the Scottish Champions so let’s take a look at the best and worst case scenario for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Best Case Scenario

Pot 1 – Eintracht Frankfurt

The Europa League winners came up against Celtic’s Glasgow rivals in the final of the competition and didn’t look like anything special. The game could have gone either way and there wouldn’t be any reason why Celtic couldn’t give the German side a right good game.

Pot 2 – Tottenham Hotspur

A battle of Britain match is always a fascinating affair and a draw against Tottenham would be met with the usual press nonsense. Celtic proved they could go toe-to-toe with a top English side when Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side failed to beat Celtic in 2016/17. Postecoglou coming up against Conte would be an interesting affair.

Pot 3 – Sporting Lisbon

The Portuguese side lost their grip of the title last season but managed to pip Benfica to second spot to automatically qualify for the Champions League. A trip to Lisbon for Celtic supporters is always special and this is the pot that the Hoops should be looking at to try and get at least four points off.

Worst Case Scenario

Pot 1 – Real Madrid

Celtic haven’t been drawn against Los Blancos since 1980 when the Hoops narrowly missed out on progressing to the semi-final of the European Cup. the 14 time winners of the tournament would prove to be a tough test but FC Sheriff showed that a result can be achieved.

Pot 2 – Liverpool

Klopp’s side narrowly missed out on the league and Champions league last season and would be one of the toughest sides we could face. The Reds don’t have the best of records against Celtic but I would rather avoid the Merseyside club.

Pot 3 – Inter Milan

To complete what would be a group of death for Celtic would be our old foes Inter Milan who missed out on the Italian title by two points. Inzaghi will be delighted at the return of Romelu Lukaku and this would be a side better avoided.
