Some Celtic fans are questioning the logic of potentially moving Mikey Johnston out on-loan this season with many feeling he’s ready to make a first team impact at Celtic.

Reports on Monday claimed St Mirren had made an inquiry for the Johnston with the hope of taking him on-loan for the season.

Speaking after scoring his first Parkhead goal at the weekend, the tricky attacking midfielder conceded he may go out on-loan to get first team experience if Brendan Rodgers believes that’s best for him.

However, with the youngster making such a big impression in pre-season, Celtic fans believe it would be negligible to see Mikey head out on-loan when he could hold a place down in the team as a squad player in front of Jonny Hayes.

Mikey has come through the ranks at Celtic and has been a bright spark in the developmental side, he’s also made great strides with the national side.

Celtic fans would love to see the player blossom, much like they did with Kieran Tierney.

The midfielder has a natural gift and has the potential to be one of the most exciting players at the club.

Mikey’s skill and ability would make him a fan-favourite.

The other side of the coin is he goes out to an SPFL side and gets used to the rigours of the league in a much more harsher environment.

It did Ajer the world of good after all.

Ultimately, Rodgers will do what he think’s is best for Mikey’s development.

  1. Would prefer him staying and if he gets 20 games whether it be as a sub or a starter against hand picked opposition. Be nice to be able to look after the lad properly , who is to say anyone would care and develop him like Brendan. We have a plethora of players who we could loan, this lad could be a diamond, playing with and training with champions week in week out is better than looking like a boy wonder in a poor team , a team that will use him at their convenience and as a short term fix. Come on Brendan keep the lad and show him what we think of him. HH
