CHRIS SUTTON has torn in to a section of the Celtic support who want to criticise Neil Lennon at every juncture because they didn’t want the Irishman back as manager.

Using his RecordSport column, the Englishman believes pie and the sky rumours about Rafa Benitez and Jose Mourinho have got some peoples heads to a place where it doesn’t matter what Neil Lennon does – they will find the negative.

Neil was offered the job immediately after winning the treble treble, taking over from Brendan Rodgers in late February. Many Celtic fans were irked by the way it all went down and the boast from Peter Lawwell that they didn’t interview any other candidates before making the decision did Lennon no favours.

Sutton hit out on twitter when he was barraged by a small number of people moaning about Neil Lennon because the team only beat Sarajevo 2-1 on the night.

This spilt over to the former Celt’s column:

“The negativity from a large section of the support who didn’t want Lennon was probably inevitable but it will only have an adverse effect on the team and the club as a whole

There’s a lot of work to be done and everyone, including Neil Lennon, realises that. But to be criticised after winning 5-2 on aggregate? I just don’t get it.

And I’ve yet to hear a realistic alternative. All the stuff about Rafa Benitez and Jose Mourinho was the biggest load of b****** ever.

“We’re in an age where we judge players virtually immediately but the guy needs to be given a chance and judged over a period as he had a lot of energy and looked very good physically.

“Celtic won the treble last season and in terms of trophies that was a fantastic season but everyone could see that whoever was going to be in charge needed help in the transfer market.”

  2. Chris sutton i like him,he is right all that talk about a new manager that could have been Rafa Benitez and Jose Mourinho was all BullSH– he is right, but there is bigger Bullsh– doing the rounds from them trying to sell there players for a top price when they are second best and have won nothing only winners with caps and play in CL or Score goals in CL then some teams will pay top money for so how can we say any of there players are worth more than 1 or 2 million none are winners what have they won nothing second best is nothing winner takes all and top price will be paid for the winners only thats football facts…
