BIRGER MELING has been linked with a move to Celtic and reports have gone so far as to suggest the deal was all but done. Not quite if you hear what his agent has had to say on the matter.

Bjorn Tore Kvarme looks after the player’s interests and as we suspected when Chris Sutton claimed Birger could be coming in, nothing will be decided until after Rosenborg have either failed to make the Champions league or have qualified.

The Norwegian side take on Zagreb this evening in the first leg of their Champions League playoff tie. If they manage to get past the Croatian side, surely Meling would stay at least another six months to have a European adventure with his team-mates.

Speaking to the Evening Times Bjorn made it clear his client could move but only when the time is right.

“Birger will probably move on at some point. But they are still playing to get into the Champions League so that may influence things as well.”

“In general, it is always interesting for players to go to bigger leagues to play for bigger clubs. You just have to find the right moment. But if Rosenborg get into the Champions League that is interesting for Birger as well.

“I think he can play in a stronger league and at a stronger club. He is a good attacking full-back, he can run all day, he has got decent crosses and good technique and he can defend. He is very aggressive as well.”

Celtic have their own qualifier to worry about on Thursday night and yet another Euro deadline has passed without a single-player coming through the door.

  1. There will be no more players getting bought before Celtic go out of the Europa league. Then it’s too late eh Peter? And EXACTLY THE SAME will happen next season.
