Former Celtic midfielder Nir Bitton has completed his move to Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv on a two-year deal.

During his time at Celtic Bitton made 270 appearances for the club and picked up a phenomenal 18 winners medals.

He did confirm that Celtic offered him a new contract but it appears that the 30-year old wanted to return to his native country.

It was important that he left the club on a high as a champion with the midfielder certainly playing his part in Ange Postecoglou’s first season.

He didn’t start the season off well being sent off against Midtjylland at Celtic Park but when he returned to his natural position in midfield he looked far better and was a good asset to have for the manager.

During this window, it will be crucial that we replace Bitton with a similar type defensive midfielder with it being possible that Yosuke Ideguchi could be that very replacement.

Ange doesn’t appear to be the kind of coach to sign someone for no reason, with the Japanese midfielder having injury issues after a terrible challenge sustained during a Scottish Cup tie at Alloa.

Many would still like the club to add to our arsenal in that department with the Hoops being linked to Brazilian midfielder Vinicius Souza.
