BOLI BOLINGOLI

Defender
Date of Birth: 1 Jul 1995
Debut: v FK Sarajevo August 2019
Nationality: Belgium
Signed: 3 July 2019

Signed from Rapid Vienna in the summer of 2019, Boli Bolingoli made his Celtic debut in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League first qualifying round encounter with FK Sarajevo, having actually made his debut for Rapid Vienna in a pre-season friendly against Celtic in 2017. Neil Lennon’s men came from behind when goals from Mikey Johnston, Odsonne Edouard and Scotty Sinclair took a favourable scoreline back to Glasgow.

In his first 12 appearance for the Scottish champions, Bolingoli got his first taste of the Glasgow derby, when Celtic won 2-0 at Ibrox. Afterwards, the Belgian right-back hailed the occasion as one of the biggest moments of his career to date, made all the better by being on the winning side.

He follows in the footsteps of Belgian ex-Celts Joos Valgaeren, Jason Denayer and Dedryck Boyata in playing for the Hoops.

The cousin of fellow footballers, Jordan and Romelu Lukaku, Bolingoli follows in the footsteps of Belgian ex-Celts Joos Valgaeren, Jason Denayer and Dedryck Boyata in playing for the Hoops.

In his formative years, the 24-year-old came through the ranks of Club Brugge before moving on loan to Belgian side Sint-Truiden and latterly signing permanently for Rapid Vienna. In a confident 2-0 win over CFR Cluj in the UEFA Europa League group-stage, it was Bolingoli’s perfectly weighted cross that helped Odsonne Edouard open the scoring.

“Winning at Ibrox was great and it felt amazing. To celebrate it with our fans was brilliant.”
