DARRELL CURRIE has warned that the current shifting of power to the top five leagues in Europe will cause a monumental ripple effect around the rest of Europe.

The ‘elite’ leagues who already garner a lot of the Champions League spots are looking to tie up the competition for themselves in future – not allowing inferior leagues to compete with them on any serious level plausibly.

It’s a case of the rich wanting to get richer.

Plans put forward for a meeting in August claim an invitation-only style Champions League where the spots will go to the likes of the English league.

The popular BT presenter foresees a breakaway from leagues in Scotland, Belgium, Hollan etc. to counteract these plans.

Celtic and Ajax have been fighting on the Champions league front for some time now with Peter Lawwell and Edwin van der Sar leading the charge for the smaller nations looking to still gain entry into the competition.

Ajax got to the semi-final of this year’s competition BUT will have to qualify again to get to the group stage and Celtic who have won their league have to go through four rounds of qualifiers to make the competition.

Something has to give.

  1. Well this is for all the fans of the smaller inferior leagues as they put it to us, we all will stop watching there CL games, and we will form our very own CL from all the smaller inferior leagues as they put it,its going be a good watch i get pissed off watching same 32/16/8/4/2 year in year out…

Let all the so called inferior leagues ditch the CL and do it our way…

  2. Totally agree with Jackie Gillies, tell them where to stick their CL.

GREED is in us All,however, this type of corporate greed is in my view particularly despicable.I hope it comes tumbling down round about them.

I too would abstain from watching it,well, why bother IF the Bhoys aren’t in it?

    HH?

  3. I like Darryl Currie, and I’d love to think what he says would be a possibility, but Darryls opinion carries no weight. Its hardly the stuff if headline articles. Personally, for sometime I’ve had the belief that there is no bright future for us while we play in the SPFL. We need change, and radical change, yer when talk og the Atlantic League was common, it was a cincept dismissed by many of pur fans, who would rather play Ross County than Benfica, or Morherwell ahead of Anderlecht, because they like the away trips. Celtic will shrink dramatically if we not see serious positive changes in the next 5 or 6 years. Our stadium, the atmosphere, our support mean nothing when it comes to the carve up the big boys are pursuing . Change or choke.
