BRENDAN RODGERS has given more details on Tom Rogic’s injury after the news broke earlier today that the midfielder will be out until March.

Many Celtic fans were down on the Asian Cup because it prevented Tom from playing in the Glasgow Derby and has meant the player has not kicked a ball for Celtic since boxing day. Supporters are going to be even more annoyed at the news Rogic injured the knee playing for his country in the last 16 of the competition.

Tom played 112 minutes of that particular game before being subbed by the Socceroos. The player isn’t used to playing that amount of minuted and you have to wonder when that injury came.

Speaking about Rogic’s situation, the Celtic manager was clear the injury happened on international duty and it only came to light because the club wanted to assess the midfielder’s hand after breaking bones in his hand while also on international duty.

“Tom had a problem with his hand which he injured playing for his country. He went down to London with a member of a medical team on Thursday to look at his hand.” Rodgers told Celtic TV

“While he was down there, we had his knee looked at, and his knee showed up that he had a lateral meniscus problem which will keep him out the team for up to six weeks”

“Not what we were expecting, it’s unfortunate.

“When he played in his last game for Australia he landed awkwardly and unfortunately he’s tweaked his lateral meniscus”

It’s a hammer blow for the bhoys who were expecting Tom to be back in the mix as early as Sunday. Now he will be missing for the Valencia tie among other important games coming up.

  1. Celtic may be compensated by the AFA. But what about Toms pain?? You cannot compensate for that.
At least he can see his team mates stutter along without his gracefull passing ability from the stands. As they all do well or shi7e without him.Grim reading for Tom though.

  2. I know this isn t going to be popular but I would sell Tom. Spends too much time away, is regularly injured and let’s be honest he has been poor this season so far. And not a 90 minute player.
