Brendan Rodgers refused to be drawn on Greg Taylor’s Celtic future when asked directly by Chris Sutton.

The full-back’s future has been the topic of discussion for the best part of this season, but Brendan Rodgers didn’t have any update for Sky Sports viewers, brushing off the query with a wry smile and a light-hearted, “I am sorry, Chris. There is not. I wish there was.”

It was a short but telling exchange that may add fuel to the fire regarding the left-back’s long-term position at the club.

Taylor, whose current deal is winding down, has yet to agree on new terms despite months of speculation. His recent Instagram post following Celtic’s title celebrations, captioned “Lived it and loved it”, sparked concern among fans that the full-back might be nearing the end of his Parkhead stay. The caption had a hint of finality to it, especially given the timing, coming just days before the Scottish Cup final at Hampden.

Adding to the intrigue was Alistair Johnston’s comment on the post, sharing an emotional gif that many interpreted as a nod to a potential farewell.

Rodgers has consistently used Taylor this season, including in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with St Mirren, where the Scotland international started and later moved into midfield after the introduction of Jeffrey Schlupp. His tactical flexibility and understanding of the system have made him a valued figure under the Irishman.

However, with Celtic preparing for another summer of movement and needing to keep a homegrown quota strong for European registration, Taylor’s situation looms large. If no resolution is found soon, the club may be forced into a decision, rather than risk losing him for nothing.

With Sutton pressing for clarity and Rodgers offering little, it appears the uncertainty will roll on, at least until after Hampden.
