Brendan Rodgers discussed the treatment of Greg Taylor by Celtic supporters this afternoon, with the Hoops defender yet to sign a new deal at the club.

With Taylor’s current deal set to expire in the summer, Rodgers is hopeful that Taylor will re-sign, despite supporters chanting Kieran Tierney’s name at the full-time whistle, with Taylor and Rodgers both going straight down the tunnel.

When asked, ‘Is the club closer to keeping Greg Taylor, given your appreciation of him?’

Rodgers said: (The Celtic Way), “Hopefully. It’s been an ongoing issue, so I’m not exactly sure where it’s at at the moment. But what I know is I’ve got player who’s given so much to this club.

“Over a number of years consistently, his robustness, his ability, what he’s done for the club. So that needs to be respected. Now, as I said, he might decide to go elsewhere.

“But at this moment in time, he’s here. He’s very much a Celtic player. And we want to support that.

“Hopefully we can get to some agreement to allow him to stay.”

Despite all the media attention surrounding Kieran Tierney rejoining the club, Rodgers is desperate for Taylor to stay.

With Tierney’s struggles with injuries over recent years, it’s vital that Celtic have another left-back ready to start when called upon, and Taylor has shown himself to be this player since joining the club in the summer of 2019.

Despite criticism from some supporters, having both Tierney and Taylor at the Hoops vying for the starting left-back spot would be the ideal scenario, with both playing large parts in the club’s domestic dominance over the last decade.
