BRENDAN RODGERS was asked about the current state of play with Filip Benkovic at Celtic and if he would be looking to get him into the Leicester first team next season.

The former Celtic manager was coy on making any decision on the player’s future yet but praised the defender after working with him in Glasgow.

The Leicester boss hasn’t ruled anything out at this point and with a good few loan players coming back in the manager will rune the rule over them before deciding where they will be going next.

“The whole plan for him was to get him game time. We took him up to Celtic which was a huge club with big pressures to play. He has done very well.” he told Sky Sports.

“All the loan players will look to come back and then we will decide where we will go from there.”

It’s very unlikely Celtic would get a second loan deal out of Leicester for the player, especially because Rodgers knows what the Croatian can do. However, if the Irishman is given serious money, could he potentially overlook a signing by Leicester who he didn’t make himself?

Benkovic is just getting back to full fitness after being out for over a month with an injury. Neil Lennon is hopeful the defender can play a big part in Celtic’s final fixtures.
