BRENDAN RODGERS commented on the transfer speculation linking Le Havre defender Harold Moukoudi with a move to Celtic Park before this weeks deadline.

The Irishman was asked about the possibility of Celtic make a moe for the player and if there was anything in it.

Rodgers replied: “I know of the player but there is nothing close in that.”

Most likely meaning, this is a player who the club have identified as a potential signing but have not reached out to the club in France yet with a firm offer.

Celtic are looking at all their options and hoping to bring at least one defender in before the window closes.

Moukoudi, 20, is looking for a move from Le Havre as he has outgrown the Ligue 2 club and believes he can develop better elsewhere.

The defender has been linked with a whole host of clubs this summer but with English teams now out of the running to land him permanently until January – Celtic are in a strong position.

It would likely take €6million to prize him away from Le Havre but the club are willing to sell for the right price.

  1. Surely we need an experienced centre-back to steady the defence. A 20 year old from the French Division 2 is hardly the man for the job. If there is anything in this story, it smacks of the board trying again to go for the Pound Shop option, and ignore the plans of the manager.

  2. Experience is what we need not some guy from anywhere because he might be cheaper p.lawwell get a grip and sort that defence out because we go through this shite naming every season mention this player and that player and guess what nothing happens as usual all we get is we tryed this and that if we dont fix this problem out this week then my money stays in my pocket.

  3. Give you two names that will make Celtic very interesting. First one Sam Larson at Feyenord – a player Parched supporters would idolise. Skill , touch , vision he has it all , can drop a shoulder and takes a mean set piece. £5 million is a bargain for a lad who could be the next Ericsson and can play 11 or 10. Next one is a bit harder but he is none other than Aek Athens center back Marios Oikonomou. A proper stopper , yes they look like making the group stages but he is on loan and bought initially for -£1 million , come on Brendan rattle that biscuit tin.
