Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that midfielder Odin Thiago Holm is on the verge of completing a loan move to Los Angeles FC in the MLS

He follows Stephen Welsh and Lenny Agbaire out the exit door this January.

Speaking ahead of Celtic’s trip to Ross County, Rodgers expressed optimism about the deal being finalised soon and hinted that further departures could follow in this January transfer window.

The Norwegian U21 international has struggled for game time since arriving in Glasgow in the summer of 2023. Despite being touted as a future star, Holm has only made three appearances this season, totalling just 24 minutes on the pitch.

His exclusion from Celtic’s Champions League squad earlier in the campaign further underscored his limited role under Rodgers, with competition in the midfield proving too stiff.

“Hopefully that will be confirmed soon,” Rodgers told Celtic TV.

“He’s due to go on loan. Welshy has gone to get some game time, and there may be one or two others over the course of the window. There are lots of conversations, both in and out, so we’ll see what happens.”

Holm’s move to LAFC presents an exciting opportunity for the 21-year-old to reboot his career in a competitive environment. The straight loan deal will last until the end of the MLS season.

Rodgers’ mention of “one or two others” leaving suggests Celtic could be set for additional January exits. With players like Luis Palma and Greg Taylor linked with moves away, there could be more outgoings as the Hoops look to balance the squad during a demanding campaign.

Kyogo could even be one of them.

While Holm departs temporarily, Celtic’s midfield remains well-stocked with the likes of Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate, Paulo Bernardo, Luke McCowan and Arne Engels, ensuring no shortage of options for Rodgers.

The move appears to be a positive step for all parties, with Holm gaining the opportunity for regular minutes, and Celtic maintaining a streamlined squad.

Fans will now wait to see if Holm can make the most of his opportunity across the Atlantic before returning to Parkhead in better shape to compete for a first-team spot.
