Celtic is taking a measured approach in appointing a successor to Ange Postecoglou, who recently left the club to sign a four-year deal with Tottenham Hotspur.

Despite the pressure from fans for a swift appointment ahead of pre-season, Celtic’s top brass, including majority shareholder Dermot Desmond, are committed to a thorough review of potential candidates.

The process of selecting Postecoglou’s successor is expected to take weeks rather than days, say the Daily Record.

Desmond is keen to personally evaluate all potential options before selecting his preferred candidate. As a result, Celtic fans may have to wait a while longer to learn who will be leading their team in the upcoming season.

Brendan Rodgers is also taking time to consider his options.

Rodgers, who was previously at the helm of Celtic, had planned to take a year off after leaving Leicester. However, he would need to be convinced that the timing is right for a return to his former club. There is a growing feeling amongst the Celtic support that the timing could be right, with quality of players and position that the club finds itself in.

While Rodgers deliberates, Celtic’s hierarchy is exploring various contingency plans. Early front runners include former Chelsea boss Graham Potter, Manchester City’s assistant coach Enzo Maresca, and Ipswich’s Kieran McKenna, who has emerged as an unexpected candidate.

  1. This is the guy that was taking to the media about Celtic being his ‘dream job’ while he was in talks with Leicester. He will jump at the first job offered from the EPL or Europe. Also needs money to buy EPL style players. We need some one with a knowledge of other markets and connections to pick up bargains. Rodgers is not this guy and neither is Moyes. Leicester are the most expensive squad ever relegated. They were mainly Rodgers players. What is he going to do with the peanuts available to him (relatively) at Celtic. Knutsen is the guy. They should be pushing the boat out to get him in immediately. Desmond would be foolish to leave this weeks ‘ to get it right’. What a load of Bull! Needs to get someone in straight away, the right guy is available, and get planning to cope with losses which are coming. Kyogo, Reo and Maeda will jump at the chance to move South. Abada is gone and O’Riley will be next. Will Rodgers be able to fill these gaps for under 80 million, I doubt it. We need a guy who can do it quickly with 20 million. You don’t do that by spending 10 million on an EPL journey man. Get the Norwegian in now.
