Celtic have been back in pre-season training for just two weeks now with new manager Brendan Rodgers already having a good opportunity to mull over his squad.
Already, Rodgers has expressed his desire to keep and ensure several players such as Kyogo, Daizen Maeda and Callum McGregor contribute under him. We know this because said trio have all been given new contracts of late although these may not be the only first team assets the treble winning boss thinks about giving new terms this summer.
Fans are eager for defenders Cameron Carter-Vickers and Greg Taylor to be given new deals although one player whose contract situation needs to be addressed is David Turnbull. The 24 year old has a year left on his Celtic deal but has rarely received regular minutes over the past year.
Brendan Rodgers needs to decide whether or not he is going to keep the midfielder on as a player who can come in, start and amply contribute or if he is going to let Turnbull go. Should the 50 year old elect to do the former, then he should give the ex Motherwell man a new deal.
Should Rodgers decide Turnbull is not going to play, however, then the 24 year old may be sold this summer. Losing any player for free should not be risked therefore Celtic should either sell Turnbull if he is not a part of Rodgers’ plans or give him a new deal if he is.
The 50 year old doesn’t need to give Taylor a new deal , he signed an extension last season. Do your homework.
