Brendan Rodgers has provided an update on the fitness of his squad, particularly addressing concerns about Kyogo Furuhashi and Alistair Johnston ahead of Celtic’s upcoming Premier Sports Cup match against Hibernian.
Kyogo, who has been struggling with a recurring shoulder injury, and Johnston, who recently endured a heavy challenge, both missed training on Friday. However, there is a possibility that both could be available for the weekend.
Rodgers explained to Celtic TV, “The group’s okay. We’ll look at one or two between now and the weekend. Today was a lower intensity day anyway, so the players have been really good all week and just decided for one or two players to do a little bit less today.”
He added, “Alistair Johnston will be fine for the weekend. Kyogo, we’ll just have to have a little look at him.”
Celtic will be looking to bring their form from the league into the cup tie on Sunday, having won both their opening games, scoring six and yet to concede a goal.
Celtic will also look to put up a better challenge in the League Cup this year after Brendan Rodgers suffered his first cup defeat as a Celtic manager last year in the early stages at the hands of Kilmarnock.
Kick-off on Sunday is at 3 pm and the match is on Premier Sports 1.
