Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has explained how his side’s Champions League match against Atalanta in a few weeks will be different from their clash with Borussia Dortmund last night.
The Hoops were humbled at Signal Iduna Park as Nuri Sahin’s side ran riot, putting seven past Kasper Schmeichel.
It was an evening to forget for the Bhoys, who were found out against a top side.
Emre Can opened the scoring from the spot before Karim Adeyemi bagged twice. Serhou Guirassy then netted a penalty of his own before the mercurial Adeyemi completed a first-half hat-trick.
Guirassy and Felix Nmecha added further gloss to the scoreline in the second half before Celtic were eventually put out of their misery.
With last season’s Europa League winners Atalanta up next on matchday two, things aren’t getting any easier for the Celts.
The Italians will provide another stern yet different test in the eyes of Rodgers.
“Atalanta will be a different game,” he said (The Celtic Way).
“It’s a more man-to-man game so you have to be really strong in your duel and be able to work the ball.”
Things must change rapidly if Celtic are to take anything off La Dea on their own patch.
Before then, though, they do have two league games to negotiate.
A trip to Dingwall lies in store this Sunday before Aberdeen are welcomed to Parkhead in a table-topping clash post-international break.
Rodgers’ men need to take care of their bread and butter before turning their attention back to the continental scene, where things must improve.
