Brendan Rodgers Eyes Striker Reunion as Celtic’s Transfer Deadline Edges Closer

Celtic could be set for a dramatic late twist in the transfer window as they weigh up a move for former Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho, with just over an hour remaining in the window.

With Adam Idah sealing a £6million switch to Swansea City and a host of targets slipping away — including David Datro Fofana, who opted for Charlton over the Scottish champions — Brendan Rodgers is under pressure to bring in firepower before the deadline closes.

Now, reports from SunSport suggest that Iheanacho, 28, has emerged as a real possibility. The Nigerian international played under Rodgers at Leicester, and the pair enjoyed a productive spell together in the Premier League. A reunion almost materialised in January when Celtic explored a loan deal, but no agreement was reached at the time.

Iheanacho is currently on the books at Sevilla, but the Spanish side are said to be open to letting him leave, with just one year left on his contract.

Rodgers is a long-time admirer of the striker.

He famously found the net against Celtic during a Champions League clash with Manchester City in 2016, one of his few goals for City. He had been nominated for the Golden Boy Award.

Time is ticking for Celtic, who need to rush a deal over the line.
