Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers discussed a milestone occasion for Greg Taylor against Dundee at Dens Park tonight, despite the Scotland defender’s future at the club being in doubt.

Taylor played his 200th game for the club in Tayside with the assist for Luke McCowan’s opener; however, despite playing such a large number of games since joining the Hoops in the summer of 2019, he appears set to leave the Scottish Premiership champions in the summer.

With his contract expiring, he is free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with other clubs, and with an offer already reportedly on the table from Celtic, there appear to be no signs of him staying in Glasgow despite a hugely successful time at the club.

Dinamo Zagreb, several MLS clubs, Trabzonspor, Espanyol, and English Championship sides Hull City and Queens Park Rangers are reportedly exploring the option of a pre-contract agreement, leaving Celtic in the market for a new left-back before next season.

With second-choice Alex Valle set to return to Barcelona in the summer, Celtic will need to find a replacement.

A sensational return for Kieran Tierney has continually been rumoured; however, that has yet to happen, with Rodgers instead criticising supporters for chanting Tierney’s name at full-time against St Mirren at Celtic Park, which the Irishman believed to be disrespectful to Taylor.

The Celtic boss continued his praise of the Celtic left-back tonight.

He said: (BBC Sport), “Wonderful occasion for him. To have the success he’s had shows how committed he’s been. From a coaching perspective, we appreciate everything he does. He’s a joy to work with.”

Rodgers clearly wants Taylor to stay; however, a disagreement between the Scottish left-back and the club has meant a new deal has yet to be agreed.

Links with a move for Tierney have certainly complicated matters.

However, if the Arsenal defender were to rejoin the Hoops, a second-choice left-back would be a must, given Tierney’s continual struggles with injuries in recent years.

This means that if Taylor decides to stay, there is a good chance he would start more than some would like to give him credit for.
