Brendan Rodgers is set to come up against yet another new face in the Ibrox dugout after Rangers parted company with Russell Martin, marking the seventh different permanent Rangers manager Rodgers will have faced across his two spells in charge of Celtic.
The turnover is remarkable, and when you add Murty and Ferguson, it’s even worse reading for the light blues.
Since Rodgers first arrived in 2016, Rangers have cycled through managers at a dizzying rate, with Mark Warburton, Graeme Murty, Pedro Caixinha, Steven Gerrard, Michael Beale, Philippe Clement, Barry Ferguson and most recently Russell Martin all attempting to halt Celtic’s domestic dominance. None have outlasted Rodgers, and none have managed to consistently get the better of him either.
Martin became the latest casualty following Saturday’s damaging 1-1 draw with Falkirk. The result left Rangers nine points behind Celtic in the Premiership standings and was enough to force the Ibrox board into action. His short 123-day reign yielded just one win in eight league games, a run that has effectively ended their title challenge before the clocks have changed.
Rodgers, meanwhile, has returned to winning ways and has watched his side grind out a result when they really needed one. While performances haven’t always been convincing, the points are being collected and with Rangers now back in disarray, the momentum is very much on the green and white side of Glasgow. They will be challenged by Hearts for this league title, with the Jambos currently leading the way in the league.
Facing his ninth Rangers manager is a stat that says as much about Celtic’s stability under Rodgers as it does about the chaos across the city.
