BRENDAN RODGERS has told Celtic fans he wants to try and keep a core group of players if the club is to move forward after this season.

With the summer transfer window almost upon us, the Irishman is conscious that Celtic must do everything in their power to keep a nucleus of players together.

“We’re conscious that at times Celtic will sell players, but we’re trying to keep the core group of players because there’s a lot of work’s gone into that in the last couple of years,” said the Celtic manager.

“We’ve been trying to create an identity.

“The players will have been loving this success. Of course there will be one or two that may look at other needs, which you can understand.

“But going forward we want to keep improving.

Celtic are hoping to tie up a deal for loan bhoy Edouard and are looking at bringing more stars in.

Some players who could make way are Stuart Armstrong and Dedryk Boyata – both of whom are entering the last year of their deals.
