Celtic midfielder Paulo Bernardo scored his first goal for the club on Tuesday afternoon against Dundee. It was a strike that kickstarted a dominating 3-0 victory.
After the game, manager Brendan Rodgers was full of praise for the Benfica loanee: “For Paulo it was good. He’s such a mature player for a young player”, he said (The Celtic Way). “He’s always had a great attitude at training. He’s played in a lot of big games. But he had a wee bit of everything today – he had a wee bit of dig, put his foot in, passed the ball and made runs into the box.”
Bernardo was yet to truly announce himself to the Celtic support before this afternoon’s match-up. With his performance, though, he impressed many.
Rodgers was one of those and the Irishman will undoubtedly include the Portuguese under-21 internationalist in his lineup for this Saturday’s Glasgow derby.
Bernardo is a cert to start in that one after catching the eye in the last two matches. He seems to have nailed down the coveted third midfield spot in the Celtic team. It is his to lose going into the final crucial two games before the winter break.
Rangers lie in wait at Parkhead this weekend before the Hoops travel to Paisley next Tuesday evening to take on St. Mirren, after which they are not playing for two and a half weeks as Scottish football shuts down for the winter.
