Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers is set to miss the next couple of games as he undergoes treatment for a niggling issue but the American is expected to be fully fit for the Scottish Cup Final later this month.

Speaking after the 1-1 draw at Ibrox, the Celtic manager provided an update on the centre-back’s condition, revealing that Carter-Vickers has been playing through discomfort in recent weeks.

“We will probably have the likes of Cameron Carter-Vickers coming out for maybe a couple of games this week,” Rodgers told TCW.

“He has been playing with a little bit of an issue that he can get some sort of injection on that will make it right. So I would think he’ll maybe miss a couple of games, but back for but he will be back fit and ready for St Mirren and then the Cup final, a wee bit like Alistair Johnson.

“Our priority, of course, is all the games, but we have a Scottish Cup final. So that is the big priority, to get the players ready for that. So there is a little window now in order for him to get some treatment on that.

“He gets an injection which clears up a little bit of the issue that he has.”

The 27-year-old has been a vital presence in Celtic’s backline throughout the season, and with the Premiership title already secured, the coaching staff are keen to ensure he’s fully ready for the season finale.

It’s probably the best time of the season to spend a week or two on the sidelines, with not much to play for until the cup final.

With Johnston also being carefully managed ahead of the final, Rodgers is clearly taking no chances. Celtic’s eyes are firmly on completing the Treble, and having Carter-Vickers fully fit will be crucial to those hopes.

What is annoying about this, though, is the fact that Dane Murray is injured. Brendan Rodgers seemed keen to get him uninvolved with the first team, and with CCV out, it could’ve been a prime chance to get some minute into his legs.

  1. There is absolutely unannoying about this . young Murray is out but has not been involved, we have plenty of cover at centre back to step in , with Vickers resting.
