BRENDAN RODGERS has revealed he has had a heart to heart with Mikael Lustig AFTER he brought Jeremy Toljan to the club on Thursday evening.

Jeremy has come in for the second half of the season and will likely challenge Lustig for the right-back position. The Swedish defender has remained unphased as Celtic’s search for a defender became very public. If anything, the player actually excelled under the pressure assisting four goals on the last two games.

The Celtic star’s contract runs out at the end of the season and there’s no sign yet of a new deal but Brendan Rodgers believes there’s a casual understanding of where he sees Mikael come nearer the end of the season.

“I spoke to him so that he and I know where everything is at.” Rodgers told RecordSport.

“He is someone I have a real respect for and that is why I made sure I spoke to him the very first moment I could after the transfer window closed.

“We had a nice chat on Friday. He is happy with it and will go with it and we will speak again.

“Mikael fully deserves the respect of knowing the reasons why we would bring in Jeremy and what it looks like going forward.”

Celtic kick off this afternoon against St Johnstone and while Jeremy isn’t match sharp, everyone is curious if the defender will make an appearance.

The Celtic manager hasn’t ruled out signing up Lustig for another season; if a deal does come, it’ll likely to be nearer the end of the season.
