FILIP BENKOVIC played his first game at Celtic Park on Thursday night and loved every minute of it.

The 21-year-old looked the part as he, alongside Dedryck Boyata mopped up anything put in front of them from a resolute Rosenborg.

This was the young Croatian’s first taste of Celtic Park on the field and he was relishing it.

Celtic managed to get a late goal in a frustrating night at Paradise.

Celtic were in control of the game but found it hard to threaten in the final third with the fans becoming more and more frustrated as the player’s passed it sideways and backwards for long periods of the game.

It was only when the bhoys went direct late on they got their reward.

Scott Brown’s long ball to a Boyata who had stayed up the park seen the Belgian assist Leigh Griffiths in the winner.

Celtic Park erupted and it’s safe to say the fans have left a lasting impression on the defender because of their support.

“It was a very good game for us. The atmosphere was really fantastic and I enjoyed it. It was a pleasure to play in that match.

“It was my first game at Celtic Park and it was an unbelievable feeling.

“The fans were behind us for 90 minutes. They trusted in us and we believed in ourselves.

“We scored at the end of the game and it was a very important three points. This is why we play football, because of this.

“If someone asks you why you play football, you bring him here and see everything.”

Celtic will now head away to Austria for Matchday 2 of the Europa League at the start of October. The bhoys will be hoping to build on their three points against Red Bull Salzburg.
