FORMER Celtic midfielder Liam Henderson’s Italian job is turning into a nightmare after Football Italia reported that his club Bari are on the brink of bankruptcy.
The Italian site claims an investigation into financial irregularities at the club and says the President Cosmo Antonio Giancaspro has less than two weeks to shore up a €5million deficit or it’s very likely Bari will have to start again in Serie D.
This will be a nightmare for Henderson, who only a few weeks ago was trying to help the club gain promotion to Serie A. The team fell at the first playoff hurdle and resigned themselves to Serie B – or so they thought.
This latest event could see them drop out of the league altogether.
There has been interest in Henderson from Parma in recent weeks, with Bari in such dire straights the player could ease the club’s financial burden if he was sold for a reasonable price.
