NEIL LENNON has now left Easter Road after he and Garry Parker were suspended for seemingly nothing if you read the clubs statement on the issue.

Neil has brought Hibernian a good amount of success and was the manager to bring them back to the SPFL. The manager has cut a frustrated figure at times over this season especially with his best players being sold from under him while the Hibs higher-ups expect him to work miracles.

According to The Mail, as cited by RecordSport, the rot started earlier in the season with the whole John McGinn transfer debacle. Neil and John both knew of Celtic’s interests, and Hibernian wouldn’t budge on a specific figure. However, Neil Lennon was keen on bringing in Ryan Christie as part of the deal, either on loan or a permanent move. That might seem crazy to some now, but up until the Hearts semi-final, Christie’s Celtic career looked as good as over.

‘MailSport understand that when Hibs and Celtic were trying to negotiate a deal for McGinn, Lennon was keen to sign Parkhead playmaker Ryan Christie – only to see it fall through with McGinn signing for Aston Villa instead.’

McGinn going to Celtic would have put money in the clubs coffers as well as a very talented player in Christie. In the end, it worked out for Celtic as Ryan came to the forefront at Parkhead and earned a new three-year deal. Something which must have been galling for Neil Lennon, knowing Ryan could have been playing for Hibs had the hierarchy not messed Celtic about.

Hibs have lacked creativity at times this season where McGinn or Christie would have stepped in to help. This doesn’t seem to be the tipping point by any stretch of the imagination, but a symptom of why things eventually came to a head.
