THE SPFL have this evening confirmed a lot of Scottish football fans worst fears and revealed Sky Sports will takeover EXCLUSIVE rights in the new TV deal – meaning BT Sports will no longer carry the Scottish product.

The governing body will not release the official figures of the new deal but have called the move ‘groundbreaking’.

From season 20/21:

• Sky Sports will exclusively broadcast up to 48 Ladbrokes Premiership live matches per season, as well as up to six Premiership / Championship play-off matches, in each case for five seasons from 2020/21

Fans were hoping BT would stick around and continue their unrivalled production of our game with Sky Sports treating Scottish football as an afterthought in many fans eyes.

But money talks and Sky Sports pockets are deeper. Although the figures talked about are more than the SPFL have ever gotten, it’s still believed these figures pale in comparison to even the Swedish League.

We will hopefully find out the intricacies of the deal over the coming months.

For now, enjoy what BT has to offer because we’ll soon have to listen to Kris Boyd and Kris Commons every time there’s a game on the TV.

Groan.

  1. Yet again the sheer stupidity of those at Hampden has let the fans down again. The paying public / fans do not want Sky anywhere near Scottish Football. BT should have prevailed. Any chance of a rethink?

You don’t have to listen. You have a choice.

    I intend to exercise mine.
