CHRIS SUTTON has lavished praise on Odsonne Edouard and perhaps given Peter Lawwell palpitations at the same time.

Talking about the striker to RecordSport, Sutton says he’d be ‘staggered’ if there weren’t big clubs in Europe set to bid for the striker this summer but from a Celtic point of view – they should try and hold onto Eddy just a little longer.

“Edouard might have decided his time is up, but maybe he hasn’t. Only he knows.

“And if you were Celtic, you would surely do everything to get him to stay for just 12 more months.

“Sure they’d have to break the wage structure, but it’s a one-off. And they’d get the money back in the transfer-fee profit, anyway.”

Celtic have simply refused to break their wage structure for anyone in the past. You’d think if Celtic get nine and are going for ten, they would make that one time call and hand Eddy a bumper deal. It could all be futile if Eddy wants to go but if money is driving the player going forward, we can be in that conversation if we want to be.

But does Peter Lawwell want to be? Given Lawwell himself is the highest-paid chief exec in the country, why can’t we pay one player Premier League wages since our CEO is happy to take them?
