BT SPORTS have indulged in a bit of revisionism when it comes to one of the biggest skelpings Celtic have received on the European stage.

In an attempt to hype up Wednesday night’s Champions League semi-final between Barcelona and Liverpool the broadcaster’s social media page went off the deep end talking about Virgil van Dijk.

As the Dutchman gets set to head back to the Camp Nou for the first time since he and his Celtic teammates were turned over, BT tried to call the defender’s previous display in the stadium as ‘imperious’.

Celtic fell 6-1 that night to a rampant Barcelona side and Virgil was as culpable as anyone. A rabbit in the headlight comes to mind for the whole team who couldn’t live with the tempo and skill of Barcelona.

Virgil said himself he didn’t have a good game but he learned a lot from the tie. A couple of clips calling the big man’s display as ‘imperious’ is pretty hard to swallow.

Whatever floats your boat.

  1. What a miserable article!
Virgil had a great game and stood out head and shoulders from his team mates that night and your mean spirit in not acknowledging this shows through. Your comments lack credibility.
