Former Celtic loanee Oliver Burke has issued a warning to Bayern Munich ahead of their Champions League play-off clash with the Hoops next week, insisting that Celtic will give them “a battle for every ball.”

The German side will be travelling to a sold-out Celtic Park, before hosting travelling fans a week later, after the Hoops dodged a UEFA away fan ban on Friday morning.

Burke, who had a loan spell at Parkhead in 2019, knows firsthand what it’s like to play for Celtic and believes that Bayern will underestimate the Scottish champions at their peril.

Now with Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga—after spells with RB Leipzig, West Brom, and several loan moves—Burke shared his thoughts on the upcoming tie.

Burke didn’t mince his words when describing the challenge that awaits the German giants at Celtic Park:

“Celtic will be far from easy for Bayern Munich,” Burked warned via TCW.

“Celtic will give absolutely everything they have against them. They will fight for every ball.”

Burke also touched on the fan culture between Scotland and Germany, drawing comparisons between the two nations’ supporters:

“I think Scottish fans and German fans are similar in culture—that’s why the Scots were so popular in Germany during the Euros.

“They are both a bit crazy—and they like to drink beer!”

After his stint at Celtic, Burke’s career has seen him move between clubs, including spells in Spain and Germany, but he remains a Werder Bremen player despite loan moves away from the Bundesliga side.

For Celtic, overcoming Bayern Munich will be no easy task, with the Germans clear favourites.

But with the home leg first, Celtic will look to take a positive result to Germany, where they can play for something and not be completely out of the tie.
