Celtic Women’s clash with Rangers Women on Monday evening was one that was jam-packed full of drama both on and off the park.

We recently found out Rangers coach Craig McPherson will be charged by the SFA for a shameful headbutt on Celtic manager Fran Alonso and now we also know that in reaction to events, Celtic defender Caitlin Hayes has been included in the first ever SWPL Team of the Week.

Hayes stood out for her side in the derby draw and it was she who netted the dramatic late equaliser. Deep into second half stoppage time, the 27 year old got in behind the opposition defence.

The Rangers ‘keeper came way out her goal and rather skilfully, Hayes knocked it past her to tap into an empty net. This late, late strike cued scenes of sheer jubilation at the Excelsior Stadium as the Celtic players sprinted towards Hayes and manager Alonso passionately beat his chest on the touchline.

It was Hayes’ third goal in two games against the Gers with it being fair to say she is turning into quite the nemesis of her side’s fiercest rivals.

As alluded to, because of her antics, Hayes was included in the first ever SWPL Team of the Week. She was joined by the likes of Glasgow City midfielder Lauren Davidson and Motherwell attacker Tiree Birchill in a side that was made up of the foremost performers from the most recent round of fixtures in the SWPL and SWPL 2.

In the first ever SWPL Team of the Week, it would’ve been pleasing for Hayes to see herself included. The 27 year old certainly deserved her place in the starting eleven following a performance and goal that rattled a fair few cages.
