Celtic captain Callum McGregor has called for calm and perspective following the club’s 3-1 defeat to Midtjylland in the Europa League, insisting that recent wins over Falkirk and Rangers should not mask the work still to be done.
Celtic’s promising start in Herning was undone by a brutal seven-minute spell before half-time that saw Midtjylland score three times. McGregor admitted the goals were poor and accepted that the result highlighted where the team still need to grow.
He said: (TCW), “That we still have a long way to go, I think that’s obvious
“Nothing’s been solved after what was a really good game at the weekend, we know that. You can’t get too up or too down.
“You come away here against a really good side, a good club who know what they’re about. It was always going to be difficult.
“There’s a lot to work on, a lot of growth still left in our team. We know where we are and we know where we want to get to.”
McGregor’s comments struck the right balance between hope and honesty. The win over Rangers gave everyone a lift, but the defeat in Denmark was a reminder that Celtic still have work to do to reach the level needed in Europe.
