Martin O’Neill has confirmed that Callum McGregor missed Celtic training at Lennoxtown on Friday because due to a stomach bug.
The Hoops skipper was missing from the session ahead of Celtic’s return to the Scottish Premiership vs Falkirk at Celtic Park, but O’Neill is hopeful the midfielder will recover quickly.
Speaking on Celtic FC’s YouTube channel, O’Neill said: “Yeah, he didn’t train today. He’s got a stomach bug. I’m hoping he’s going to be okay.
“I don’t know whether Trusty passed that on to him in the last couple of days or not. And Callum never misses a training session. He had, I think, a bit of vomiting.”
McGregor’s absence had been noticeable given how rarely the Celtic captain misses training.
O’Neill’s update confirms there is no suggestion at this stage of an injury problem, with illness instead keeping the midfielder away from Friday’s training at Lennoxtown.
That now appears to have taken it’s toll on McGregor, although O’Neill stopped short of saying for certain that the illness had been passed between the two players.
The main question is whether McGregor will be fit enough to play any role against Falkirk.
O’Neill did hint that Celtic are hopeful the skipper will be available, with his comments likely to ease concerns among supporters.
