CELTIC captain Callum McGregor has stated that leaving the club was never on the cards for him.

The skipper was linked with numerous clubs down south, with Leicester the name that failed to disappear. Brendan Rodgers was an admirer of the midfielder but failed to bring him down south. There were rumours of bids and discussions between the parties, but thankfully nothing surfaced.

Callum could have easily followed his other teammates out the door after the poor season last year, but he decided to stick things out and turn things around. Speaking to the Daily Record, Callum McGregor said;

“No, not at all. We had a poor season but straight away, I was thinking: ‘We need to put this right’. That was my motivation.

“I love this club, I’ve committed my future here and I took it personally.

“If we win, I’m the happiest guy in the world and if we lose, I won’t speak for three days.

“There was never a point where I was going to take the easy option and leave.

“I wanted to come back and put the record straight.

“I wanted to show people that it was a one-off and that we could go again.

“Would it be the pinnacle of my career to lift the trophy as captain? Absolutely.”

He’s been sensational this year and is up for multiple player of the year awards.

He’s adapted to his new roles in the team and leads by example on the pitch. His mentality is great, without that in the team we wouldn’t be in the position we are in just now.
