Celtic captain Callum McGregor was once again a standout while playing for Scotland at Hampden.

Much like his other Celtic teammates, he did not have the best of games at the weekend but put in a top performance to help Scotland to a 3-0 victory over Ukraine which sends them to the top of their Nations League group with nine points.

In midfield he played alongside a host of English Premier League talent but absolutely strolled it being one of the best players on the park for his international side.

He was happy to drop into defensive areas to tidy up and start play as well as getting forward to try and make things happen for Steve Clarke’s side in the final third.

On international duty he may not be the captain but he certainly knows how to set the tone as McGregor showed all his attributes as a leader in the crucial win while the pressure was on Scotland to deliver.

McGregor is the only man to have started every game for Celtic this season and continues to show incredible levels of consistency to his game even though he very rarely gets any time off.

The next two matches in the Nations League for Scotland are crucial with performances like McGregor’s setting the standard for other players to follow.

  1. He had his best game in a while last night, the whole Scotland team did.

Maybe being free of the shackles of captaincy helped his game, or the change in system
