Celtic captain Callum McGregor has joined manager Brendan Rodgers in calling for increased transfer activity in January, emphasising the need for additional quality players to enhance the squad.

Following Celtic’s exit from European competition with a 2-0 defeat to Lazio, McGregor expressed his expectations for significant backing from the club’s board during the upcoming transfer window.
This latest European disappointment marks a concerning trend for Celtic, as they now hold the record for the longest winless streak by a British club in Champions League history, at 15 games.
McGregor, reflecting on the situation, highlighted the importance of adding depth and quality to the squad, echoing the words of the manager.
He believes that bringing in more competent players not only enhances performance in matches but also intensifies the level of competition in training, ultimately elevating the team’s overall standard.
He said: [RecordSport]
“We always need help. If you ask any manager how many new players does he want, he will always say it’s as many as he can. And it’s the same for the players.
“We want as many good players coming through the door as we can.
“That builds real competition in training and games all the time, and the level just accelerates from there.
“We want to continue to push as a club and as a group, and I’m sure they will do that.
“January is notorious for being the one where they can see how the first half of the season plays out.
“And whatever we need, they have a good track record of doing that, in terms of backing the team and backing the manager.
“I am sure that will happen in January.”
The January transfer window presents an opportunity for Celtic to address these needs and set a course for improvement and success in the latter half of the season and beyond.
