Callum McGregor has heaped praise in Glasgow rival Nathan Patterson after the Ibrox player starred in Scotland’s win over Moldova on Friday evening.

The Celtic captain was gushing about the right backs potential and admits he’s been impressed with the player since Nathan started training with the Scotland boys.

Patterson got on the scoresheet against the home side on Friday, helping to secure a playoff place for his country.

After the game, Callum told Herald Scotland, the lad is going places.

“He’s been absolutely first class,” he said. “You can tell he’s a real talent – even from the first day he trained with us in the summer.

“You could see his quality, his athleticism. And it’s great to see him make such a big impact, getting off the mark with a goal.

“He needs to just keep his head down and keep working hard. Other experienced boys will keep him on the right track, keep him honest.

“But he’s already made a great start to his international career. He’s been excellent.”

They’re friends this week but will become foes from now until next year. Callum will be tasked with hunting Nathan and his team down in the coming months and there’s the small matter of a January New Years derby.

There’s every chance Nathan could make the move away from Glasgow in January. The Ibrox club just announced losses of 23million, they have to plug the gap with player sales.

For Celtic, it’s all about building on what Ange has started from the summer and making sure we’re in the conversation going into the January derby.
