Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has today confirmed that Cameron Carter-Vickers is fit to face Rangers this weekend.
The American central defender wasn’t in attendance at training this morning, raising concerns that he could miss this Sunday’s crucial clash at Parkhead.
Hoops boss Rodgers, though, has explained his absence, stating that he was given a recovery day by the club.
The gaffer was asked if Carter-Vickers was unavailable for the weekend.
“No, it’s just about giving him a wee day of recovery”, he said (The Celtic Way).
“Sometimes we do that in our sessions. When players are overloaded, we can take one or two out and give them a recovery day having worked hard all week.”
Celtic fans will breathe a huge sigh of relief with this news.
Stephen Welsh would have likely begun alongside Liam Scales in defence had the 26-year-old been unavailable but thankfully, that won’t be the case.
Instead, Carter-Vickers is fit and ready to go for Sunday as the champions look to go five points clear of their city rivals in early September.
The Hoops have started the season impeccably, winning four out of their four competitive games so far.
This weekend is arguably their biggest test yet, but Rodgers tends to cope well with Glasgow derbies.
