Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers is a major doubt for the weekend’s clash against Motherwell at Celtic Park [Scottish Sun].

The former Tottenham man had to withdraw from the USA international squad with his coach describing his injury as minor. He did not feature in Celtic’s first defeat of the league campaign in Paisley either.

Ahead of this game, Celtic are facing further injury worries with the list of players sidelined growing during the international break.

At present, he joins a list of Sead Haksabanovic, Daizen Maeda, Giorgos Giakoumakis, David Turnbull and Carl Starfelt who have all got issues with some being assessed upon their return from international duty.

There has not been any continuity in defence for Celtic this season with all four centre backs being featured at some point.

Moritz Jenz and Stephen Welsh will have been well rested during this break and are likely to be the pairing who starts the match on Saturday.

There was a lot of criticism directed at the pair after the defeat in Paisley but both have to step up.

Postecoglou has been clear that it is one game at a time but having both Carter-Vickers and Starfelt out could be a huge blow looking ahead to next week’s Champions League fixture away to RB Leipzig.
