Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers has dismissed claims that the Hoops have something to prove against Rangers on Sunday at Ibrox. Having lost the previous two Glasgow derbies, the Hoops have failed to maintain their unbelievable form this season in the derby.

However, Carter-Vickers isn’t having claims that Celtic travel to Govan with a point to prove, despite sitting 17 points clear of Rangers and already having won the Premier Sports Cup and Scottish Premiership, with the chance to win a domestic treble against Aberdeen next month.

Carter-Vickers himself, who has struggled in the last two derbies despite having rarely put a foot wrong until now, remains confident that Celtic’s focus is on continuing their strong season rather than proving a point.

He said: (TCW), “Of course, we want to win. We want to win every game we play, and that’s no different who it is against. We want to win the game.

“We’ll have a couple of days now where we can celebrate winning the league, and then our full focus will be on that game and trying to win it.

“Some people might say, ‘set the record straight’. I wouldn’t personally use that kind of language because for me, it’s not just one or two games in the season, but the whole 38. And I think we’ve shown over the 38 games that we are the best team.

“Yeah, we want to win the game next weekend and put in a strong performance because at the end of the day, it’s something that the fans care about and we care about also.”

Carter-Vickers isn’t letting emotions get the better of him. Instead, he is focused on winning the game. He is correct—Celtic have run away with the league, and the potential of a domestic treble is real, while Rangers have more to prove than Celtic.

The US defender has played a huge role in an unbelievable four seasons at the Hoops. He’s seen and done it all, been to Ibrox on a number of occasions and won, and has the experience and know-how to ignore the outside noise from the media ahead of the game.

That experience will prove vital on Sunday, and it’s good to hear he’s focused not by emotion or revenge. Instead, he is using his winning mentality to guide Celtic through the challenge and secure another important victory.
