While a transfer fee has not yet reportedly been agreed between Celtic and Qarabag, there is growing confidence that an agreement is close. Discussions between the clubs have been ongoing after an opening offer was rejected, but the latest update suggests there is an increasing belief that the deal is heading towards a successful conclusion.

The reported presence of Duran’s representative in Glasgow is perhaps the clearest indication yet that negotiations have moved beyond initial interest. Personal terms are often among the final pieces of the puzzle once clubs are confident a transfer is achievable, although there is still work to be done before anything can be considered complete.

Should the move go through, Martin O’Neill would be adding one of the more exciting attacking prospects available within Celtic’s price range this summer.

Duran enjoyed an outstanding campaign with Qarabag, scoring 15 goals and providing 10 assists across all competitions. He also caught the eye on the biggest stage, finding the net five times in the Champions League to underline his ability against top-level opposition.

One of the biggest attractions is his versatility.

Although naturally capable of leading the line, Duran is equally comfortable operating from wide positions. That flexibility could prove invaluable for O’Neill as Celtic continue to reshape their forward line ahead of another season balancing domestic ambitions with European football.

With uncertainty surrounding the long-term make-up of Celtic’s attack, bringing in a player who can feature both through the middle and on the wing would give the manager several tactical options without needing specialist cover for each position.

From a recruitment perspective, Duran also fits the profile Celtic have targeted successfully in recent years. Even with his valuation increasing, the figures being reported remain well within Celtic’s range.

Nothing has been signed just yet, and supporters will know that transfers can still change quickly before contracts are completed. However, if the latest reports prove accurate, Celtic’s pursuit of Camilo Duran is now entering its most important phase, with confidence continuing to build that the Colombian could soon become the club’s latest summer signing after Oxlade-Chamberlain.
