When Callum McGregor was subbed off in Celtic’s 4-2 win on Wednesday night there was no doubting who he’d give the captain’s armband to.

He walked over to Celtic’s right-back and put the armband on Tony Ralston who’d lead the side for the remainder of the game.

Taking to Instagram, Celtic’s academy graduate shared the special moment with his followers;

The Road to Captain for Celtic’s Ralston

Ralston hasn’t had the easiest road to becoming Celtic’s stand-in captain. Just twelve months ago, a Celtic exit seemed inevitable. He was handed a one-year contract extension, which many fans were surprised at.

After a brilliant turnaround under Ange Postecoglou, he was rewarded with a further four years at Celtic.

He was scoring and assisting for fun, looking like a new signing for the Hoops. There was, and still is, a debate about who to start – Juranovic or Ralston.

His performances kept impressing those watching, and after unfairly missing out on a few Scotland squads, Steve Clarke eventually called the Bricky up.

He’s a brilliant person for the younger players to look up to, his resilience and determination must be admired.

If there was any player deserving of wearing that armband for Celtic last night, it was Ralston.
