Carl Starfelt has spoken out officially after becoming a Celtic player last week.

The Swedish defender has been isolating since arriving in the country but will meet up with his new teammates after they return from Denmark.

Carl will be assessed at Lennoxtown when he arrives but the player is expected to be fit and will likely be part of the first match day squad against Hearts on Saturday.

Speaking to the official website, Carl commented on becoming a Celtic player:

“It is a massive honour for me to join Celtic, one of Europe’s great football clubs. I know how special Celtic is and I know what the club means to so many millions of people. This is a great moment and move in my career and it is one I will really cherish.

“The footballing world knows all about Celtic, the scale of the club and our brilliant supporters, and it is humbling and so exciting to now be part of this great institution.

“A number of my own countrymen have had the privilege of pulling on the famous green and white Hoops, and now it will be a massive honour for me to follow in their footsteps and wear this jersey.

“I look forward to getting down to work as soon as possible, to meeting my new team-mates, our supporters and to do all I can to bring success to my new club. I can’t wait to get working and be a part of such a great club.”

Mikael Lustig and Henrik Larsson are both permanent members of the Celtic family after their stay in the Hoops. Carl has the opportunity to make his own history under a new setup at Celtic Park.

Ange Postecoglou will likely throw Carl straight into the action given his experience. The new Celtic boss had no qualms about playing Liel Abada a few days after he met his teammates.

We’re hoping the defender can hit the ground running and help steady the ship. For the game against Midtjylland, Celtic are going to have to dig deep with an inexperienced back line.
