Celtic defender Cameron Carter-vickers has revealed how ‘awkward’ it was when USA coach Gregg Berhalter invited out him alongside Malik Tilllman and James Sands following the 4-0 derby win.

The four were spotted after the game in a Glasgow restaurant much to the displeasure of many Rangers fans who saw the image as they had been hammered.

Berhalter isn’t travelling over for the game but USA assistant coach BJ Callaghan will be in town to watch the showpiece spectacle between both sides.

Carter-Vickers is hoping that he will be too busy following the conclusion of the match celebrating a cup victory to meet up with Callaghan and his international teammates.

“I think the assistant coach BJ Callaghan is over for the game but I’m not sure we will be able to catch up. I don’t know the moment. We met up with the manager at the time after a league game earlier in the season and it is always good to see the guys from the national team. We all have a meal and you could say it was a little bit awkward,” said Carter-Vickers as quoted by the [Daily Record].

“But at the end of the day we are all professionals, we know how to behave and to put things aside for an hour or so when we have some food. We met up after the league match but it might be a bit different after a cup final though.

“To be honest, it’s not something I pay much attention to. It doesn’t matter who we are playing or who is in the other team. I try to have the same level of focus and try to perform.

“Is it the old thing about pals go out the window for 90 minutes? One hundred percent. I don’t even think too much about it as it’s all about my own performance and trying to help my team.”

The 25-year-old will likely pair alongside Swede Carl Starfelt in the Viaplay Cup final which has been a formidable partnership. Celtic have yet to lose a domestic match this season which Carter-Vickers has played in as the only defeat so far came at the hands of St Mirren in Paisley.

He personifies calmness at the back which is always needed on the big occasions and remains mega focused. He will likely have the task of defending against Alfredo Morelos which he looks to enjoy as he doesn’t tend to get sucked in by his antics which is vitally important when playing in one of these games.
