Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers has revealed the team’s Champions League target as they edge closer to securing qualification for the knockout stage.
The Hoops set a benchmark of 10 points for their group campaign, a milestone they could reach with a victory over Club Brugge at Parkhead on Wednesday.
When asked if the Hoops had set an internal aim of 10 points, the American responded:
“It was around 10,” he told Celtic TV.
“We feel as a group we’re now close to getting out of this group phase. There are still four games, and we want to get positive results in all of them. It’s us against ourselves now in terms of seeing how many we get.”
Now, with four games left to play, the aim has to have changed for the Hoops. 10 points is more than achievable and it’s now about looking higher.
Celtic’s clash with Club Brugge offers an opportunity to consolidate their position and take another step towards a memorable Champions League campaign. With Parkhead set for another electric European night, fans will be eager to see their team reach the magic number and move closer to progression.
The data over the past few weeks has suggested that 10 points will see the Hoops go through to the knockout stage for the last 16, but until that’s confirmed, Celtic will look to pick up results.
Every win comes at a financial bonus, and the higher the side is in the league table, the higher the cash prize, so there’s still every reason to continue pushing.
