Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers was speaking to the press today ahead of the Hoops clash at Fir Park.

The reigning Scottish champions extended their lead at the top of the SPFL Premiership with a thrilling 4-2 victory over Dundee United with title challengers Rangers losing 2-1 to St Johnstone.

Until February last season, Ange Postecoglou’s side were playing catch up with the league leaders, but Cameron Carter-Vickers has insisted that the Celtic squad aren’t getting too focused on their lead at the top of the table having previously been in the position of chasing.

“I think if we can put two good performances in and get two good results in the next two games, it will definitely set us up very nicely for after the World Cup,” said Cameron Carter-Vickers during his pre-match press conference [Celtic FC].

“I don’t think we look too much at the points, you know, there was a stage last year when we were six points behind and last year we managed to come back and win the league so we definitely know there’s still so many points, to play for – it’s still very early in the season.

“It’s not something we really take too much notice of.”

The Hoops will wrap up their fixtures during what could be considered this first part of the season with ties against Motherwell and Ross County.

Celtic will then jet off to Sydney to participate in the Sydney Super Cup up against the likes of Everton and Sydney FC in a tournament dubbed as Ange Postecoglou’s homecoming.

They will then take a short break before heading off to Portugal for a winter camp which will include a friendly tie against French side Rennes.

Carter-Vickers has stood in as club captain for the Hoops in the absence of Callum McGregor having also been on the sidelines at some points this season.

“I’m feeling good,” he said. Obviously, with the amount of games we have sometimes it can be difficult to fully recover and stuff like that but yeah I’m feeling good and just trying to help the team in anyway I can.”
