FRANKURT are interested in signing Ko Itakura after impressing in the Bundesliga 2 with Schalke.

German outlet WAZ reports that the newly promoted German side has until the 31st of May to decide if they wish to trigger the clause in the Manchester City player’s loan contract that will see him sign permanently. However, it’s thought that the German side isn’t planning to do this. Signing Itakura would use a huge chunk of their transfer funds.

However, if Schalke does not take up the option to buy, Europa League winners Frankfurt will be keen to swoop in for the player. The top-flight side has been watching the 25-year-old Japanese player and has been impressed with what they’ve seen.

This means Celtic faces fierce competition in the race to sign Ko Itakura. Celtic missed out on his signature last summer and will be hoping they don’t miss out on it again.

It’s going to be an interesting one, but Schalke must make their decision first before Celtic, Frankfurt, and any other clubs interested in the layer can make an official move.
