Celtic take on Lazio next Tuesday evening in matchday five of the Champions League group stages. The Hoops need to win if they are to have any chance of progressing in Europe this season.
Last time out in Rome, a side led by Neil Lennon secured a monumental 2-1 victory. The 9,000 or so away supporters were duly rewarded. This time around, however, there are due to be less than 4,000 Hoops fans in the away end.
Before they get into the stadium, it has been confirmed by the Celtic’s Supporters Liaison Officer on Twitter that fans’ flags, banners, and drums will have to be pre-checked. The club has also confirmed that it is Lazio who have put these measures in the place.
This is a procedure that is rarely seen at football games involving Celtic, even away in Europe. It does seem rather authoritarian, but whoever is enforcing it will undoubtedly have their reasoning.
Pretty sensible really.
If Celtic had the common sense to do the same instead of allowing the GB free rein , they would have saved themselves a small fortune in UEFA fines.
